Doesn’t Get Any Closer!

Watched an incredible piece of accident avoidance this morning at about 0630 on the way to the office:

I was SB on Yellowstone approaching Dell Range and the light turned red, so I throttled down as I normally do and started coasting towards the intersection, downshifting to slow the bike.Traffic started coming off of Dell Range onto SB Yellowstone and as they made the wide left-arcing turn, some jackass in a small silver car just blasts through the red light (no obvious attempt to brake either) right into the turning traffic. In the outside lane was a white Chevy Trailblazer which was now caught between the car in the inside lane and the car plowing through the intersection on a T-bone collision course.

In the outside lane was a white Chevy Trailblazer which was now caught between the car in the inside lane and the car plowing through the intersection on a T-bone collision course. Somehow, without braking, the driver of the white Trailblazer was able to squeeze enough room out of the inside lane without hitting the car already in it or allowing the intruder to crunch some sheet metal. Not until the Trailblazer was oriented in a straight line did I see brake lights.

Naturally, the driver of the small silver car just kept on driving and exited WB onto Central towards I25 while everybody else slowed down to catch their breath and pull the seat cushions out of their asses.

I really wanted to follow the Trailblazer and shake that driver’s hand when they stopped. That was a nice piece of driving; avoiding what was probably going to be a pretty bad three car accident. And also a beautiful show of restraint to not follow that asshole to where they were going and squeeze their neck until their eyes popped out.

I may have caught it on camera since I had the helmet-cam running, but most likely was not close enough to be able to get a plate number so it would probably be useless for the po-po.

On a side note: Any of my LE friends out there reading this – SB Yellowstone to SB Central down to about 22nd or 21st street will yield some righteous tickets between 0615 and 0645 on weekday mornings.

    • I wouldn’t say shaken, possibly stirred…

Definitely in awe that the driver of that Trail Blazer was able to react in the manner they did!
